She, stylized as sHe, is a song of the English singer-songwriter Zayn Malik's debut solo album, Mind of Mine. It is the fifth track of the album.
Lyrically, "She" features a female protagonist that has not loved or been loved "in the right way".[1]
Background
She" is a self-described "party tune" that is "not as intense lyrically" as some of the other cuts.[2] It incorporates 1980s synth sounds,[3][4] and an experimental hip hop outro that blends into the next track, the R&B anthem "Drunk"[5][6]
Lyrics
She puts her spirit in a nightcap
She always knows where the crowd's at
She puts her mouth round the cigarette
I put it out cause she likes that
She always dances when it's raining
"Aye, when's it starting baby?"
She looks at me like she's waiting
Making time go slow when they show her the table
Bright lights, but she's fading
Feels right, she's crazy
Bright lights, but she's fading
Feels right, she's crazy
She wants somebody to love
To hold her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
She wants somebody to love
To kiss her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
She's crying out that she loves me
Holding my hands so I won't leave
Cause baby don't wanna be lonely
She says "I just want you to hold me"
Bright lights, but she's fading
Feels right, she's crazy
Bright lights, but she's fading
Feels right, she's crazy
She wants somebody to love
To hold her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
She wants somebody to love
To kiss her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
In the right way
In the right way
In the right way, in the, in the right way
In the right way, in the right way
In the right way, in the, in the right way
In the right way, in the right way
In the right way, in the, in the right way
In the right way, in the right way
In the right way, in the, in the right way
In the right way
She wants somebody to love
To hold her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
She wants somebody to love
To hold her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
She wants somebody to love
To kiss her
She wants somebody to love
In the right way
Reception
Axs said that it is "The album's best track", continuing to describe it as "one of the sexy cuts produced by MYKL. Funky synths back the 23-year-old as he depicts a girl who likes to get cozy in the club. Malik's a smooth operator, singing, "'Cause baby don't wanna be lonely / She says, 'I just want you to hold me.'"[7] Pitchfork said that "There’s a dexterity to "sHe" that seems vacuumed out of the rest of the album, his vocal moving nimbly among blurred pulses of guitar and inverted piano clusters. When he unleashes his falsetto, it pierces the track, a crystal tower rising through the surface of the earth".[8]
